Argentina’s rich history, featuring larger-than-life
personalities and events, is matched by its status as
one of the world’s largest wine producers. The main
grape varieties, which owe more to the past than present-day
fashion, include French (Malbec), Spanish (Tempranillo)
and Italian (Bonarda) grapes.
Mendoza and the surrounding “Wine Land” is
an oasis of vineyards. Located in the middle of a desert
and surrounded by the imposing Aconcagua in the Andes,
discover the secrets of wine and the hospitality of the
wineries in a guided wine tour of this region.
There are many wineries located near the city and all
over Mendoza province. Taste the wines while the oenologist
explains the winery’s history, different harvest
systems, the winemaking process, the proper aging and
bottling of wines. You may view the equipment used in
wine-making including grape hoppers, crusher-de-stemmers,
and stainless-steel tanks used for fermentation, presses,
and cask-aging rooms, among others. |
